The custom home kitchen and bathroom scene has changed a bit in the last few years.
With more opportunities to set unique styles and layouts, new custom homeowners in southwest Missouri, including the Branson and Springfield area can have fun designing custom kitchens and baths and still be practical in every way.
One of the top trends recently is the farmhouse home style. Farmhouse style designs create a classic and straightforward option to make a house feel like home. The custom farmhouse style home features staples like the farmhouse style sinks, rustic hardware, plank-style cabinet and flooring ranging from reclaimed wood floors to porcelain and stone tiles for homes of any size and budget.
If the farmhouse trend isn’t quite right, another rising trend is the transitional style, combining the traditional feel and elements of contemporary home styles. Blending modern home trends like quartz countertops, freestanding bathtubs, and curbless showers with traditional aspects like wood cabinets, functional lighting, and neutral colors create a unique space where rules can be followed or broken as needed.
When choosing a sink, two styles take the lead. Due to their versatility, apron-front sinks work well within the farmhouse style, either as rounded porcelain or stainless steel. Consider adding a single-lever faucet to add a touch of contemporary style that is multi-functional and sleek. Note that this style of sink needs a different cabinet than the traditional method, so design with this in mind with your custom home builder.
If the apron-front sink doesn’t fit, an undermount sink will probably do the trick. Practical and stylish, the undermount sink will take the backseat to bolder features but will help give a clean and simple look that won’t hold on to debris like other sinks.
No matter the style, one of the most popular kitchen trends is painting wood cabinets. Traditional wood cabinets will always have their place, but smart use of paint can offer a pop of color to pair next to a vibrant white, creating a robust two-tone kitchen cabinet set that will always impress. Also, consider using one bold color on upper cabinets to add visual contrast with a neutral color below. (Or vice versa, there’s no right or wrong!)
Here’s where things change. Granite has taken the backseat to engineered quartz countertops. Quartz is a solid choice for countertops due to its durability. Another fantastic feature of quartz is its ability to mimic other types of stone so that it will blend beautifully with any kitchen or bathroom style.
Imagine guests raving over the kitchen’s two-tone cabinets or french-door refrigerators. Or their comments on how the use of functional lighting and freestanding tub in the bathroom. Knowing these new custom home trends will help shape the perfect kitchen or bathroom retreat. Whether you prefer transitional farmhouse style of modern contemporary, now, it’s time to build!
